Saturday, the Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) hacked the Microsoft blog and Microsoft Twitter account. The reason was clearly communicated by SEA. Microsoft was slow to ensure the security of their products after it was revealed that the NSA was intercepting data on private servers to later include Microsoft. After knowledge of the illegal government spying, Microsoft was slow to announce any plans to protect consumers. The SEA isn’t convinced that Microsoft wasn’t allowing the spying to happen.
One of the hacked Twitter posts said, “Don’t use Microsoft emails(hotmail, outlook), They are monitoring your accounts and selling the data to the government.”
Apparently, the two hacks were done as a distraction for a bigger hack that the Syrian Electronic Army has in mind.
Microsoft has yet to comment.
